Mark Arend Jensen
March 5, 1955 – June 11, 2011
Mark Arend Jensen passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at Bailey-Boushay House in Seattle on June 11, 2011, supported by family and friends. He is survived by his beloved children Alyssa (20), Claire (18) and Griffin (15) Jensen of Mercer Island, WA.; sisters, Judy Kunsman of San Antonio, TX., Joanne Lyding (Dan) of Orange, CA., and Cheri Hill (Dave) of Modesto, CA.; and his devoted mother, Mildred Jensen of Lafayette, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold “Hal” Jensen. Mark was born at Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek, CA., on March 5, 1955, and raised in Lafayette. Mark graduated from Acalanes High School in 1973. He attended Diablo Valley Junior College, after which he moved to Washington to earn his business degree at Whitworth College in Spokane. Throughout these years he was a devoted football player. He also loved water skiing on the Sacramento Delta, boating at Lake Tahoe and playing rugby. Mark married Marilyn Powell on October 24, 1987. Together they built a home on Mercer Island where Marilyn lives with their three children. Mark worked for Aetna, Seaboard Surety, Bush, Cotton & Scott, Accordia, Brown & Brown and Hentschell & Associates, specializing in construction insurance and bonding. Mark was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. He loved spending time with them on Indian Princess and Indian Guide outings. He remained close to his high school and college friends, as well as his football teammates at Whitworth. His family would like to offer sincere thanks for the excellent care Mark received from the hospice workers at the Bailey-Boushay House during the final week of his life and to the many people who visited or called to share their love. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a celebration luncheon at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. SE, Mercer Island, WA.
