Mary Pang, of Mercer Island, died on March 6, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was 87. Born Feb. 15, 1922, in South Seattle to immigrant Chinese parents, Mrs. Pang went to Franklin High School and the University of Washington. After Harry Pang came home from World War II, they married and opened a grocery store. They took over a frozen-food start-up operation from Mrs. Pang’s sister, Ruby Chow. The company was named Mary Pang’s Food Products. Mrs. Pang taught Chinese cooking classes and published a cookbook, “A Wok With Mary Pang.”
She is survived by son Martin, granddaughters Kristin and McKenzie, brothers Bill Mar (Mary Kay) and Roy Mar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, and brothers George, James, Henry, Edwin, Coleman, sisters Ruby Chow and Elsie Huie. A service has been held.
