Nancy E. Mason

Nancy E. Mason

Nancy Elizabeth Mason passed away peacefully on August 3, 2010 with her family at her bedside. The only child of George and Margaret Gaub, Nancy was born in 1931 in Meadville, PA., and graduated from Allegheny College where she affiliated with Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Nancy’s marriage to her high-school sweetheart, Bob Mason, was the start of a 60-year journey through a life filled with love, family and adventure. After living in Ohio and New York in the early years of marriage, the Mason family moved to Mercer Island in 1964. The family adapted to their new Northwest lifestyle by engaging in all things outdoors. Camping and hiking were soon followed by skiing with fond memories of countless weekends at Crystal Mountain. In the summer, Nancy and Bob could be found boating in the San Juan Islands north to Alaska. And, in between seasons, Nancy enjoyed worldwide travel, particularly precious time spent on the island of Maui with family. After delaying her career to raise her family, Nancy shared her special gifts of love of life and literature with young children as a librarian, retiring from the Mercer Island School District after 18 years of service. Nancy will be well remembered by family and friends for her charming style and grace, and her witty sense of humor. Nancy leaves behind her loving husband, Bob; her children, Mary Beth (Dale) Sowell, Lynn (Ken) Clenin, and David (Dawn) Mason; grandchildren, Travis and Tyler Sowell, Brian and Christy Clenin, and Alex and Michael Mason; cousin, Sonia Parry, and countless dear friends that she loved as family members. Remembrances in Nancy’s name can be made to Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation/Mercer Island Guild, M/S S-200, P. O. Box 50020, Seattle, WA 98145-5020. A Funeral Mass in Nancy’s honor will be celebrated Wednesday, August 11th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Monica Church, 4301 – 88th Avenue SE, Mercer Island with a reception to follow at the Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club, 9927 Meydenbauer Way SE, Bellevue. Private burial services will be in Meadville, PA.
