Randall Henning Lindgren, age 87, died peacefully on April 28, 2009. Known as “Randy” by his friends and family, he was born on July 24, 1921, in Chicago. He attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he studied mechanical engineering. During his junior year, his engineering studies were suspended when he was drafted into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to serve during World War II. He served in Europe, where he linked up with his brother-in-law, Lester Newton. After discharge from the Army, he completed his engineering studies and married Barbara Ann Jones in 1947, in Seattle.
Mr. Lindgren was a resident of Mercer Island since 1948. He and Barbara had three children. As their family grew, so did their family home; he would add bedrooms, bathrooms and a family room to accommodate everyone. Mr. Lindgren was also an accomplished woodworker and gardener. Every summer, he and Barbara enjoyed a bountiful amount of berries and tomatoes.
In 1952, Mr. Lindgren and a fellow engineer started a mechanical consulting engineering firm, Wieland Lindgren Engineers, Inc., which continues to be a thriving business in Seattle.
God bless this loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Lindgren is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara; sons, Craig and Brian; daughter, Randi; two adult grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
