Richard A. Fine

Richard Fine passed away on March 19, 2010 in a motorcycle accident. Born on May 9, 1941, Rich spent the last 22 years living on Mercer Island and was a Scoutmaster in troop 624. Rich had a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and worked as a design engineer and manager. Rich took great joy in the creative process, authoring numerous patents – including one listed as one of the top 10 engineering achievements by the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was always looking for a way to make things better, whether it be on the job, remodeling the family home, or creating devices to fix everyday problems. Rich loved music, and was active as a trombone player in the Boeing Band, Eastside Symphony, Portage Bay Band, and Sequim City Band. Rich could understand and fix anything – we wish he were here to fix our broken hearts. Richard Fine is survived by his wife of 35 years Karen Morris-Fine, their son Kevin Fine, and brothers Ched and David Fine. Rich has 2 children from a previous marriage – John Fine and Laura Gellendin – and 2 grandchildren – Courtney and Lauren Fine.A service to celebrate Richard Fine’s life will be held on Sunday April 25 at 2pm in the Mercer Island Community Center. Please see http://richardfine.wordpress.com for more details on the service as well as suggestions for donations in lieu of flowers.
