Robert Phillip Miles
Robert Phillip Miles, 84, died Thursday, August 21, 2014 in Santa Barbara, California.
He was born June 19, 1930 in Los Angeles, CA to Francis Sweeting Miles and Helen Wulser Miles. He grew up in Southern California where he developed a lifelong passion for sailing and the sea. He attended UCLA and joined the ROTC. Upon graduation with a degree in engineering, he served his country and was stationed in Korea. After returning back to the US, he went to UCSB and received a masters in Business Economics.
Bob launched his career with IBM before starting his own computer company, ROI, on Mercer Island, Washington where he and his wife, Rae, raised their two children. Along with building his business, he coached his kids’ soccer teams and taught them the joy of sailing.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Dianne. Marrying in 1991, they created many wonderful memories while sharing life together in many lovely locales including Mercer Island, WA, Orcas Island, WA and New Zealand before moving to Santa Barbara in 1999.
Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor, impish practical jokes, love of sailing, organizational skills, sharp mind for business and numbers, list building, fearlessness to try new things, and love of his grandkids.
Bob is also survived by his son Steve (Beth), his daughter Alison (Glenn) his stepsons Mark (Sheila), Todd (Kathy), Don (Shari); and 6 grandkids: Abby, Eric, John, Cameron, Annie and Colton.
A Celebration of Life will be held, at the Santa Barbara Yacht Club on Thursday, October 2nd at 3:30 p.m. RSVP if possible at 805-899-2996 or 626-484-0104.
