Robert (Bob) Vernon Glaze died at an adult family home in Bellevue, Wash., on Nov. 5, 2009. Born in Weiser, Idaho, to Eva and Vernon Glaze on June 27, 1916, he was the oldest of six children.
He graduated from Milwaukee High School in Oregon and joined Sigma Chi fraternity at Oregon State. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
During World War II, he was a second lieutenant with the 18th Combat Engineers. The engineers built the Alcan Highway through Alaska and the airstrip on Shemya Island.
He married Norma Jean Heil on Dec. 17, 1944, in Spokane, Wash. They lived in Sacramento, Calif., where Mr. Glaze worked for the state of California as a mechanical engineer.
The family moved to Mercer Island in 1957. Mr. Glaze worked for Boeing until his retirement in 1978. He and Norma then moved to Sunland Golf Course in Sequim.
Mr. Glaze’s two passions were golf and building things — especially remodeling the Glaze basement. He enjoyed all his kids’ activities, helping them with their projects when needed. Mr. Glaze had a fondness for opera and classical music. He also had a quiet sense of humor and was always ready to help with a project as long as it had a plan to follow.
Survivors include his four children: Claudia Jean, of Seattle; Paul (Kristy), of Mercer Island; Robert Vernon, Jr. (Kristy), of Bellevue; and Leslie Ann, of Longview. He also leaves his youngest brother, John (Rita), of Ranch Cordova, Calif., and sister, Caroline, of Sacramento, Calif.
At his request, there will be no services.
