Roland (Rory) Enzlin Clarke

June 17, 1946-March 24, 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Roland (Rory) Clarke, loving husband to Barbara and committed father to Ryan, Craig and Jenna. Taken suddenly after a brief and brave battle with cancer, Rory maintained a courageous face and jovial spirit to the end.

Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Rory and Barbara immigrated to Canada in 1978. Working in finance, Rory slowly moved the family west from Toronto to Edmonton and Vancouver, finally settling in Seattle, WA, where the Clarkes found the ocean, mountains, and a temperate climate similar to their native Cape Town. A lifelong devotee of soccer—first as a young professional with Tramway Football Club in Cape Town, then as a coach and advocate for youth soccer on Mercer Island, WA—Rory devoted passion and countless hours to the world’s most beautiful game.

Rory spent his final two years in Victoria, BC, enjoying his retirement and spending time with family. He will be fondly remembered for his ready wit, unwavering positivity, and love for his family.

Rory, you will be dearly missed.

Celebration of life memorial service details: Sunday, April 10, 1pm. Windsor Park Pavilion, Victoria, BC.
