Ruth Brook

Ruth Brook, 91, died Dec. 30, 2008, at Island House on Mercer Island.

Lora Ruth Couverley was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on June 30, 1917. She was called “Ruth” from childhood and married Rulon Brook in 1936. They raised their two sons in southern California, where she lived for 60 years. When Rulon retired in 1976, they traveled throughout North America in a travel trailer before settling in Yuma, Ariz. After Rulon’s death, Mrs. Brook moved to Grass Valley, Calif., to be near her son, Don, before coming to Mercer Island in 2003, to live by Ray, her second son.

Mrs. Brook was a loving wife and mother, caring for her mother, brother, husband and friends. She loved crafts, children, the outdoors, fishing, square dancing and scouting. For the past 10 years, she spent hours each day making greeting cards for every occasion — in the early days by cross stitch and later stamping.

She was a cherished member of the Mercer Island Covenant Church and the Rotary Club of Mercer Island.

Mrs. Brook is survived by her sons, Don (Vonna) and Ray (Gay); grandchildren, Jeff (Denise), Chad (Terri) and Dannielle (Dave Pusatere); great-grandchildren, Alycia (Kris Frye), John Mark, Zachary, Tyler and Ashley; and great-great-grandchildren, Noah, Briana and Dawson.

Mrs. Brook’s family is thankful for her full and healthy life. She will be missed by family, her Island House neighbors and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Mercer Island Covenant Church, 3800 78th Ave. S.E.

Remembrances are suggested to the Mercer Island Covenant Church Children’s Ministry or Summit Seekers Foundation Ruth Brook Memorial. An online guest book can be viewed at www.flintofts.com.
