Ruth Marie Green passed away peacefully in Bothell, WA on January 18, 2017 at the age of 95. She was born in Arkansas City, Kansas on March 6, 1921.
Following graduation from Fort Collins High School in Colorado, she attended Colorado A & M College where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta, and later completed business school in Minneapolis. She returned to Fort Collins and married her high school sweetheart Bill Green in 1941. After Bill’s graduation from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado A & M (now Colorado State University), the couple, along with their first child, relocated to the Seattle area. In 1947, Bill established his own veterinary practice on Mercer Island with Ruth as his receptionist, bookkeeper, and all around helper, while they raised three more daughters. Ruth was small in stature but a powerhouse in all her pursuits and talents. She taught Sunday School, volunteered for Children’s Orthopedic Guild, and served as leader of Bluebirds and Camp Fire Girls. An expert seamstress and quilter, she always had a project on the go including countless outfits and dresses for weddings and school dances. She was a talented classical pianist as well as an avid golfer, tennis player, and competitive bowler. After divorcing in 1968, Ruth soon worked her way to become secretary to the president of Rainier Bank (now Bank of America). Her passion for travel took her throughout the US and to Europe, Africa, Russia and Asia. She eventually moved to Whidbey Island where she enjoyed her retirement years. Just as Ruth loved life, she was much loved by all who knew her. She was generous, fun loving, quick witted, a good listener, and a caring and devoted mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed and is survived by her daughters Ginny Carr of Savona, BC, Nancy (Randy) Beck of Bothell, Missy (Ron) Bendzak of Savona, BC, Sally Stoermer of Tacoma, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren.
