Sandra Gruwell of Mercer Island peacefully passed away Jan. 1, 2022, in Mountlake Terrace, Washington. She was 84.

Sandra was born in Seattle and graduated Cleveland High School. She attended the University of Washington and was a fervent Husky football fan with her husband James. She married the love of her life, James Gruwell Sr., where they started their family on Mercer Island.

Sandra worked as a legal secretary early in her life and after raising her children started working for the Mercer Island School district for over 30 years. She became the Island Park Elementary school secretary and enjoyed helping people and keeping things running smoothly. Sandra is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Astrid, husband James Sr and her son in law Gary. She is survived by her three children James Jr, Steve, and daughter Lisa, granddaughter Beatrice and sisters Anita and Jeanne. A small family service will be held in the spring.
