Stanley “Stan” Harold Haven
Stanley “Stan” Harold Haven was born on December 15, 1922 in Seattle, WA to Inez and William Haven. Stan passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Saturday, February 11, 2012 in his home on Mercer Island, WA surrounded by his family.Stan graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1940 and served as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during WWII. After the war, Stan became a CPA and worked as the Controller for Western Cartage Inc. for his whole career and retired in 1990.Stan met his future wife Irene (Ruth Irene Thoreson) and they were married on June 4, 1955 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Seattle, WA. They built a home on Mercer Island where they raised their four children. Stan was an avid outdoorsman. He pheasant hunted with his Brittany Spaniels and spent hours fishing for salmon. Stan also enjoyed golfing, downhill skiing and waterskiing, but most of all he loved gardening – he grew EVERYTHING – especially Zinnias.Stan was dedicated to his church, Gethsemane Lutheran where he was the treasurer for 52 years. Before he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, he was a “Wednesday Regular” with Habitat for Humanity.Stan’s greatest loves later in life were his seven grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Irene (of 56 years), his four children: son, Jeff (Liz) Haven, daughter, Kristi (Bob) Mauck, son, Dean (Alison) Haven, daughter, Ann Haven and his grandchildren: Julia, Sean, Kai, Sam, Casey, Myka and Avvi. A celebration of his life will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 8501 SE 40th St, Mercer Island, WA 98040 at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2012.
