William (Bill) Marshall Brown
William (Bill) Marshall Brown, age 86, died at his home on Saturday, November 7, 2009. A good man, a character, known and loved by many, he is fondly remembered and deeply missed. Bill was born in Huntington Beach, California, but lived most of his life in and around Seattle. He was an early resident of Mercer Island, and as a schoolboy took the foot ferry across the lake to Franklin High School. He later owned tire stores in the Rainier Valley. During World War II, Bill served in the Marine Corp and saw duty in Saipan, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and China. He was a lifetime member of Ark Lodge 126 F and A Masons. He was a past member and manager of the Mercer Island Country Club, a past member of Glendale Golf Club and a past member and president of Sunland Golf Club. While retired and living in Sequim, he crafted the liturgical wood work for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Eve, now of Issaquah; his children – Stephen, of Vancouver, Brad (Jane) of Issaquah, and Pam Gehrig of Bellevue; his granddaughters – Christy Smith (Brian) of West Seattle, Lindsey Gehrig of Washington DC, and Lauren Brown of Issaquah.Full of love and pride for his family, grateful for his friends, a man who frequently called upon the name of the Lord, we picture him now at peace…perhaps with an Old Fashion in hand.Over the holidays, when the family is all gathered, there will be a small memorial on a yacht with the Christmas lights, in the waterways he loved.
