Kyung Yoo of Sue’s Tailor and Alterations is a hugely underappreciated asset to Mercer Island. Although she has been tailoring for over 25 years, no one seems to realize she is here. Her talent is extraordinary; she truly cares about her customers. When no one else would take on the unusual requirements of my equestrian wardrobe, she accepted and has been tailoring my clothes for the show ring for the last five years.
Kyong and her husband, who runs distance races, often go on all sorts of neat trips; from South Korea, her home, to Alaska, where she recently returned from. I am sure there is much more to her than I have uncovered from our short chats, and think the Island deserves to know more about her.
Amidst expanding apartment complexes and new restaurants drawing off-Island crowds, she embodies the small-town compassion that we need to preserve in our community.
