Basketball: Mercer Island boys beat Juanita; advance in KingCo

The Mercer Island boys high school basketball team made it through their first round of the KingCo tournament, beating Juanita 50-33 tonight at MIHS. The Islanders, who struggled to find their offensive ground in the first half, surged in the second to extend their lead and take the win.

The Mercer Island boys high school basketball team made it through their first round of the KingCo tournament, beating Juanita 50-33 tonight at MIHS.

The Islanders, who struggled to find their offensive ground in the first half, surged in the second to extend their lead and take the win.

The Rebels season ended with the loss. Senior Ryon Cunnigan finished the game with 15 points overall.

They will take on No. 2 seed Mount Si on Thursday afternoon 3 p.m. at Bellevue College. If the boys win they will play in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. Friday. If the Islanders lose they play for 3rd/4th place on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., also at Bellevue College.

The Mercer Island girls will play at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, at Bellevue College as well.
