Four Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) 3A state team championships helped bolster the Mercer Island High School athletics program to the top of the Eli Sports Network all-classification standings.
The locals amassed 160 points for combined boys and girls 2021-22 state tournament showings to place first, followed by class 4A Curtis with 153, class 2A Columbia River with 139, class 4A Camas with 137 and class 3A Lakeside (Seattle) with 133.
Eli’s scoring system features 25 points for a state title, 18 for second place, 15 for third, 12 for fourth, 10 for fifth and so on down the line.
Mercer Island won WIAA state titles in baseball, boys golf, boys soccer and boys swimming/diving. Islanders girls lacrosse won a state championship, as well, but in a non-WIAA tournament.
Also in WIAA state action, the girls took second in tennis, third in swimming/diving and fourth in golf. The boys were third in tennis.
