Four Mercer Island gymnasts head to this weekends state meet

Four members of the Mercer Island gymnastics team will compete in the 3A state individual gymnastics meet this weekend.

Four members of the Mercer Island gymnastics team will compete in the 3A state individual gymnastics meet this weekend.

The four qualified after competing in the SeaKing District championships on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Sammamish High School.

Cheyanne Lewis finished tied for fifth place with a 9.25 score on the floor, while teammate Catherine Seifert was 10th overall on the floor with a 9.05. Seifert also qualified to compete in the beam competition.

Joining Lewis and Seifert will be teammates Carena Toy and Tonayo Crow.

Toy will compete on the vault and beam, while Crow will participate in the bars and vault competition.

The state meet begins on Friday, Feb. 15 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.

The individual meet begins with the march-in at 1:15 p.m. Finalists who qualify will also compete on Saturday, Feb. 16 beginning at 11 a.m.

Tickets to the state meet are $15 for adults or $11 for students and seniors for one day of the competition. Two day passes are $23 for adults and $17 for students and seniors.
