Fourth-grade hoops squad nets state title

The fourth-grade Mercer Island Select Boys Basketball squad notched the state title in the silver division at the Washington Middle School Basketball Championship on March 20 in Spokane. The team is: kneeling, Drew Munson; front row, left to right, Cal Robinson, Luke Thomas, Paxton Conklin, Cash Coochise and Zachary Ashberg; and back row, left to right, Jacob Sharpe, Colton Gribble, Will Russell, Laign Magee and coach Tony Locascio. Not pictured: Johnny Banchero. Coach Locascio’s squad compiled a 4-0 record, including a 35-21 victory over Enumclaw in the final. The boys also defeated Woodland, 41-23, in the semifinals, Cashmere, 39-23, in the quarterfinals and Inglemoor, 41-15, in the opener.
