Islander girls win first KingCo tournament title, beat Liberty 60-56

It is a cliche in sports that beating a team three times in one season is a difficult thing to do. The Mercer Island girls basketball team did that exact thing Friday at Bellevue Community College by defeating Liberty 60-56 to take the KingCo tournament title.

The Islanders fell behind by nine points during the second quarter but battled back to take an eight-point lead during the third period and hold on for the victory. The win gives Mercer Island the No. 1 seed to districts for the first time in school history.
