The Islander Middle School track and field team had a top finish at the Foothills Finals meet on June 1, the championship meet for nine middle schools in the area.
Foothills champions from IMS for the 8th grade division were Eric Schulz in the 400 meter race (54.4 seconds); Peter Welch, long jump (16 feet 10.75 inches), 800 meter (2:17.6); the 4×200 meter relay of Chris Richards, Peter Mahoney, Welch and Schulz; Sarah Bjarnason, 800 meters (2:29); Emily Bassett, shot put (27’97.5).
The seventh grade champions from IMS include: Katia Matroa, 800 meters (2:28.2), Carly Ledbetter, shot put (27’0.25).
Runners up in various events include: Ledbetter, 800 meters (2:41.8); Joelle Antilla, high jump (4’4); 4×100 meter relay of Richards, Welch, Ethan Vu and Eric Kim; Steve Woolston, 800 meters (2:26.6); Alida Scalzo, 1,600 meters (5:53); Bassett, high jump (4’4).
