The Mercer Island girls volleyball team beat Sammamish last night in three games to sweep the match.
The final scores were 25-15, 25-16 and 25-12 over the Totems. The Islanders are second in the league ahead of tonight’s final regular season game at Interlake High School in Bellevue. The team, 9-2 in league and 10-4 overall, will begin KingCo tournament play on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Sammamish High School gym. They will take on the winner of the No. 6/No. 3 game earlier in the evening. It is possible that game will feature a showdown between Liberty High School and Interlake, but until the final regular season games are finished this week the Islanders won’t know for sure who their possible opponents are.
Islander head coach Susan Rindlaub said following Tuesday’s win that the team is looking great, finally recovered from injuries and sickness which has plagued them all season long.
Against Sammamish the Islanders had their strongest serving game, something they’ve worked at all season, Rindlaub said. She said the team is hopeful they will be facing off against Mount Si in the KingCo championship game, but that they have several games to play through before that happens.
The Islanders will take on the Interlake Saints tonight beginning at 7 p.m. at Interlake High School.
