The Mercer Island Little League had a strong showing during the Bellevue-MI City Tournament for the majors division baseball teams. The Phillies won the tournament on June 13, beating Mercer Island’s Cardinals in extra innings. Twenty-one teams competed in the tournament from Little League organizations in Bellevue and Mercer Island. For the first time the Island Little League teams took all four spots in the semifinals.
The Phillies won two games in their pool and beat their single elimination opponents by wide margins, including a 15-1 rout of the MI Yankees and 10-0 of the MI Red Sox. The Phillies allowed just three runs during five games.
The MI Cardinals won the regular season, while the Rockies won the Mercer Island tournament.
