Mercer Island baseball advances to state regionals

Mercer Island blanked Liberty, 4-0, in the 3A KingCo baseball tournament on May 12 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue to advance to the state regionals.

The Islanders will next play at 10 a.m. on May 21 against Bainbridge at Auburn High. The winner advances in the tourney and plays again that day. The state final four will take place from May 27-28 at Gesa Stadium in Pasco.

In the KingCo tourney, Liberty beat MI, 7-4, on May 9, the Islanders rebounded to defeat Bellevue, 10-2, on May 11 and then got another crack at Liberty and downed the Renton squad.

Mercer Island carries its 15-6 overall record into state regionals.
