MI boys rout Interlake
The Mercer Island boys basketball team put the defensive clamps on the Interlake Saints Friday, rolling past the Saints 59-18 at Mercer Island High School.
Griffin Emanuels led the Islanders (3-2, 3-1) with 21 points, while the Mercer Island defense held Interlake (2-5, 1-4) to single-digit scoring in each quarter of the contest.
Rainer McDonald scored eight points for Mercer Island, while William Lee added seven points.
Mercer Island will take on Wilson High at 2 p.m. Thursday at the ShoWare Center in Kent before traveling to San Francisco to compete in the Leo LaRocca Sand Dune Classic basketball tournament Dec. 27-29.
Islander girls score wins over Redmond, Interlake
The Mercer Island girls basketball team improved to 5-0 this season and 4-0 against KingCo league opponents, scoring wins over Redmond and Interlake last week.
Anna Luce posted a double-double and Claire Mansfield knocked down three of her four attempts from beyond the arc in the Islanders’ 52-44 win over Redmond on Dec. 14 at Redmond High.
Luce led all scorers with 22 points while also grabbing 15 rebounds. Mansfield finished with 14 points while dishing out five assists and recording four steals for Mercer Island. Haley Hanson led the Mustangs (4-2, 3-1) with 12 points, shooting 4-for-6 from the 3-point range.
On Friday, Luce exploded for 37 points and 10 rebounds to lead Mercer Island in a 70-43 romp over Interlake (3-4, 1-3) at Mercer Island High School.
Kailee Yan scored eight points for the Islanders, Jessie Stenberg scored seven points and posted three assists and Claire Mansfield scored five points to go along with four assists and two steals for Mercer Island.
Next, the Islanders will compete in the Nike Tournament of Champions Dec. 19-22 in Phoenix.
