The Mercer Island girls swim and dive team took home a third-place trophy at the 3A state championships Saturday at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
The Islanders tallied 188.5 points as a team. Lakeside won the meet for the third year in a row, recording a team score of 244. Bellevue was runner-up with a team score of 234.
All three Islander relay teams reached the medal stand at Saturday’s meet. Mercer Island’s group of Annie Pearse, Ellie Bailey, Maeve Murdoch and Sammie Edwards was runner-up to Lakeside in the 200 free relay, finishing with a time of 1:38.16. Murdoch, Edwards, Bailey and Ellie Williams placed third in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:36.06. Alex Williams, Grace Olsen, Hailey Vandenbosch and Ellie Williams placed eighth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.36.
Edwards and Murdoch reached the medal stand in two individual events for the Islanders. Edwards placed fourth in the 100 free (53.54) and sixth in the 200 free (1:54.27). Murdoch placed seventh in both the 100 free (53.77) and 200 free (1:54.66).
Pearse was seventh in the 50 free (24.61). Sophia McGuffin placed ninth in the one-meter dive with a score of 318.15.
Ellie Williams was ninth in the 500 free (5:12.23). Hixon was 10th in the 100 back (1:00.13) while teammate Heather Robinson placed 14th (1:02.21) in the event. In the 200 IM, Alex Williams tied for 11th place with Holy Names Academy’s Kellen Gibson, with both finishing in 2:12.54. Hailey Vandenbosch placed 14th for the Islanders in the 100 fly (1:00.32).
