The annual Mercer Island High School boys water polo car wash will run from noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11 at the south end Storage Court located at 8501 SE 68th St.
Tickets are just $10 and are considered a tax-deductible donation.
Though the Mercer Island School District treats the MIHS boys water polo as a “varsity sport,” water polo is considered a “club sport,” according to WIAA rules. Being a WIAA club sport means the team is not eligible for monetary support, and must raise money to fund their water polo season.
The MIHS boys water polo team car wash is a long-running Islander tradition and the primary team fundraiser for the season. Money raised benefits the entire team by offsetting pool rental fees, supplementing tournament travel costs, buying team equipment and providing scholarship support, which reduces team fees for all athletes’ families.
