The Islanders volleyball players had their sights set on a state berth this year, but fell just short when the team met a familiar foe on the court: Juanita.

Mercer Island advanced past the first round, after beating West Seattle in their home gym last Thursday night. Later in the evening, the team lost to Eastside Catholic, 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-22, 25-15).

Moving into the consolation bracket, the Islanders found themselves against Juanita, a team that the Islanders have sparred with throughout the regular season in KingCo.

Juanita had beat Chief Sealth and lost to Bishop Blanchet in the first two rounds before facing Mercer Island. Once again the Rebels proved why they finished the KingCo season in second place, beating Mercer Island in five sets for a 3-2 (27-29, 25-21, 25-21, 24-26, 15-8) win.

The Rebels would go on to lose to Holy Names to also end their season at the district tournament.

The Islanders finished with an overall record of 10-4 in league and 13-8 overall.
