Mercer Island native starts baseball season at Oregon State with wins

Former Islander Matt Boyd and freshman left-handed baseball pitcher for Oregon State University, began his college career with the Beavers taking a four game series against Hawaii last week. In the last game of the series Boyd pitched for five innings as a relief pitcher, allowing two hits. In total he threw 60 pitches, had 44 strikes, struck out two, walked one and hit another during the season opening match up.

Boyd attended Eastside Catholic High School where he played baseball.
