Two rowers from Mercer Island have earned medals at the recent National Championships, held in Oak Ridge, Tenn. June 7-9.
Chris Wales and Riley MacAulay competed in the USRowing Youth National Championships.
Wales earned a gold medal with his teammates in the lightweight four with coxswain competition, and a silver in the single scull event. MacAulay earned a silver with her team in the quad race.
Wales graduated this month from Seattle Prep and will attend Harvard in the fall, joining his brother on the crew team. MacAulay will be a senior at Mercer Island High School in the fall.
The National Championships bring together over 1,300 athletes from across the country. Both MacAulay and Wales won their regional events to advance to the national stage. Both row with Seattle Rowing Center under former Olympian Conal Groom.
