Mercer Island squash player joins U.S. junior national team headed to Ecuador

Island resident Christopher Jung will be heading to Ecuador this summer for the World Junior Squash Championships July 27 through August 1.

Island resident Christopher Jung will be heading to Ecuador this summer for the World Junior Squash Championships July 27 through August 1.

The senior at Seattle Academy, who has lived on Mercer Island for 12 years, went to Lakeridge Elementary. He joins teammates from mostly the East Coast for the team event in Quito, Ecuador as a member of the 2010 U.S. Junior men’s squash team.

Jung, who competed with the Junior Championship Tour, reached the semifinals in all five of the tournaments, securing his place on the team with a win during the World Junior Men’s team playoff. He was a U.S National champion in the U17 division last year and also won the title when he was in the U13 competition.

Jung will be attending Dartmouth College in the fall.
