The Mercer Island football team (2-1) got back on track with a 27-17 road victory over the Newport Knights (0-3) on Sept. 20. The Islanders opened the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run from running back Nathan Buchan to give them the early 7-0 advantage. The Knights would score on two separate 50-yard touchdown runs to take a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. Mercer Island quarterback Liam Rogan scored on an 11-yard touchdown run to tie the game up at halftime. In the second half, the Islanders added two field goals and another touchdown run from Buchan to secure the 27-17 victory. The Islanders will host the Sehome Mariners (1-2) at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27.
