A year after falling to Lakeside at the SeaKing district swim meet, the Mercer Island boys swim and dive team won the crown. The team finished the meet with a score of 295, beating second place Belleuve which had 226 points and third place Lakeside with 206.

The Mercer Island team of Andrew Weiss, Samuel Chong, Duncan Koontz and Karl MacLane finished in second place in the 200 medley relay race.

Weiss won the 50 freestyle race in 21.33, while Cody Hall won the diving competition with 356.7 points. Connor Nielson finished the diving competition in second place with 285.65 points. Both divers qualified for the state meet this weekend.

The Islanders 200 freestyle relay team of Noah Deiparine, Brandt Waesche, MacLane and Ian Caldwell won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:28.87.

In the 200 freestyle race, Ian Caldwell finished in fifth place in 1:49.81, while Ben Gore was sixth overall in 1:50.98. Chris Apodaca finished in 13th place, followed by Nick Swaya in 20th.

Koontz finished the 200 individual medley race in fourth place in 2:00.18, while Samuel Chong was eighth and Teddy Larkin finished in 13th place.

In the 50 freestyle race, Waesche finished in seventh place in 22.39, followed by MacLane in eighth and Samuel Peterson in 11th.

Koontz earned a second place finish in the 100 butterfly race, in 53.84 seconds. Austin Ralph was sixth in the race in 56.20, while MacLane finished in eighth place.

In the 100 freestyle event, Weiss earned another district title, finishing in 47.13 seconds, followed by Noah Deiparine in fourth place in 48.64 seconds. Caldwell finished in sixth place and Waesche was seventh.

Tanner Martinez earned an 11th place finish overall in the 500 freestyle race, finishing in 4:58.26.

Ralph finished the 100 backstroke event in fifth place, while Chong was sixth. Larkin was eighth overall in the event.

Deiparine was fourth in the 100 breast stroke event, finishing in 1:01.36 and Andrew Fukuda finished in 11th place.

Swimmers who qualified throughout the season will compete in the 3A state meet which will begin on Friday, Feb. 15 at the King County Aquatic Center.

The prelims will take place on Friday, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The finals will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Tickets for one day of the meet are $9 for adults, and $7 for students and seniors. Tickets for both days are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.
