The Mercer Island faspitch team’s historic season came to a close on Thursday, May 16 when the team lost to Bainbridge in the SeaKing district tournament.
The Islanders, playing in their first district games in over a decade, were playing in the consolation bracket on Thursday after a loss to Bishop Blanchet on Wednesday afternoon.
The Islanders faced off against Seattle Prep, winning 7-5 to play Bainbridge, the team’s final shot at a place in the 3A state tournament. Bainbridge prevailed 8-5, ending the Islanders season.
The team finished in fourth place in KingCo this year, to advance to the KingCo and then the district tournament.
