The Mercer Island girls soccer team saw its season end in heartbreaking fashion Nov. 8 in Arlington.
Deadlocked 1-1 with the Arlington Eagles after regulation and the ensuing overtime period expired, the Islanders fell to the Eagles 2-1 after going into penalty kicks in their state tournament matchup.
Kendall Riley scored for Mercer Island in the 35th minute. Despite maintaining more than 65 percent of the possession over the Eagles (15-4-1), it was the only goal the Islanders would score before the round of PKs.
Mercer Island finished its season with an overall record of 12-7-2 and a KingCo 2A/3A record of 8-4-2.
