Mercer Island High School’s boys golf team advanced to the state championship in May by winning the recent 3A District 2 Tournament. The Islanders shot 292 as a team, which is four-over par, to win the tournament. Elliott Hoang (First-Team All-KingCo) shot a one-under 71 and finished tied for fourth. Jack Besecker shot an even 72 and finished tied for seventh. Wonjoon Seo (Second-Team All-KingCo) shot a two-over 74 and finished tied for ninth. Alex Harwood (Second-Team All-KingCo) shot a three-over 75 and finished tied for 12th. Hoang birdied the 18th hole to tie Bellevue High for first, which sent it to a tiebreaker that the Islanders won by two shots behind the play of Ryan Jacobson (six-over 78, KingCo Honorable Mention).
