Mercer Island High School’s boys tennis team amassed a 13-1 record this season and notched the 3A KingCo regular-season and tournament championships.
The Ron Atkins-coached squad defeated Lake Washington in a tiebreaker to win the regular-season crown and inched past LW, 34-33, to grab the tournament title.
MI’s Ajay Manhas and Nathan Wen took third in doubles and Hanri Luo took third in singles to qualify for districts in the spring. The team awaiting word if fourth-place finishers Noah Perlman and Brandon Chew in doubles and Gian Manhas in singles qualify for districts as well.
Top district participants advance to state on May 27-28 at the Columbia Basin Racquet Club and Hanford High School.
