Mercer Island High School’s girls basketball team will play Lake Washington High School in the 3A KingCo tournament championship game at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 at LW.
Second-seeded MI defeated third-seeded Liberty (Renton), 60-54, in the semis on Feb. 5 to set up a battle with top-seeded LW.
In their tournament, the fourth-seeded MI boys lost to top-seeded Bellevue, 51-37, in the semis on Feb. 5. MI played solid defense and was led by Michael McDonald with 10 points and Nick Mautone with nine points in the offensive realm. MI will next play at third-seeded LW at 5 p.m. on Feb. 7.
Both Islander squads have qualified for districts.
In Northwest Yeshiva High School hoops action on Feb. 5 in the Sea-Tac League tournament, the fifth-seeded girls defeated ninth-seeded Summit Classical Christian School, 32-23, in a loser-out game to qualify for 1B tri-districts. Paulina Gamel had 16 points and Rose Clayman had 10 points for the local Lions.
The Lions will next play sixth-seeded Muckleshoot Tribal School at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 in the league tourney at Seattle Hebrew Academy.
The fourth-seeded Northwest Yeshiva boys will face top-seeded Muckleshoot Tribal High School in the league tourney semis at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Muckleshoot. The boys have already qualified for districts.
