Mercer Island High School’s girls basketball team finished its season at the 3A District 2 Tournament on Feb. 21. The Islanders first downed West Seattle, 56-49, in a district opener at home on Feb. 15, and then lost to Eastside Catholic (47-36) on Feb. 18 and Bellevue (72-59) three days later at Bellevue College. MI placed third in the 3A KingCo tourney to advance to districts. Senior Anna Marsh and junior Anna Mock were selected as honorable mentions on the all-division KingCo Crown team. Mercer Island and Issaquah were co-winners of the Crown team sportsmanship award. Head coach Ariel Sciammas noted: “I feel so fortunate to coach this last year at MI. The basketball community opened their arms and made me feel at home. The season was filled with ups and downs and the girls showed up every day with energy, a spirit to push the program to new limits and build a culture that girls want to be apart of. I am so proud of this team, they have set the stage for girls basketball moving forward and left the program in a better place than when the season started.” Photo courtesy of the Mercer Island School District
