MIHS volleyball finishes season at districts

Prophater named KingCo Crest Division MVP.

Mercer Island High School’s volleyball team ended its season at the District 2 3A tournament on Nov. 14.

After finishing third at the 3A KingCo tourney the week before with a pair of 3-0 wins over Interlake and Sammamish and a 3-1 loss to Liberty (Renton), the Islanders lost 3-2 to Roosevelt at districts.

MI finished 11-9 overall and 7-3 in the KingCo Crest Division.

Senior Nora Prophater was selected as the most valuable player of the KingCo Crest, Islander all-league first-teamers are juniors Ava Imbesi and June Zalewska, second-team senior Addie MacKay and honorable mention juniors Aikum Bains and Sydney Parcel.

Prophater shared her thoughts about this season: “When I found out I was selected to be the MVP for my school’s division, I was really honored. I have been a part of the MIHS varsity volleyball team for three years and honored to be team captain this year. I have had the best coaches to help me get to the play level I am at now. I am really grateful I had this amazing opportunity with my amazing team and can’t wait to see what they do next year.”

In the stat realm in all Islander games minus the district contest this season, Prophater amassed the most kills with 171, had a hitting percentage of 0.223%, 21 blocks, 114 digs, more than 224 serve receive passes, 42 aces and a serving percentage of 91.2%.
