MIHS wrestlers open season at tournaments

Mercer Island High School’s varsity and JV wrestling squads engaged in their first grappling of the season at the Edmonds Invitational and Meadowdale tournaments, respectively, on Dec. 3.

In the Edmonds 29-squad statewide event, the Islanders placed ninth in the team standings and received second-place showings from Lincoln Woods (126) and Gordon Gibson (132). Other local placers were Magnus Zettel (fifth at 106), Jordan Benitez (sixth at 120), Maxwell Martin (fifth at 138) and Daniel Bahner (eighth at 160).

Over at Meadowdale, the locals finished 19-4 during the tourney.
