MIHS wrestlers shine at Bainbridge Island Invitational

Mercer Island High School (MIHS) wrestlers Lincoln Woods and Chase Warnick placed first in their respective weight classes and the Islanders took sixth in the team standings at the Bainbridge Island Invitational on Jan. 15.

Woods (126) and Warnick (145) led the way for the local squad, which also featured Gordon Gibson (third at 120), Jordan Benitez (fourth at 113), Leo Garry (fifth at 106) and Creed Finifrock (sixth at 132). Fifteen teams competed in the invite.

MIHS defeated both Interlake and Bellevue on Jan. 13 at Hazen High.

In a 54-22 victory over Interlake, local winners were Garry (106), Gibson (120), Woods (126), Finifrock (132), Warnick (145), Norman Geoghagan (152), Daniel Bahner (160), Jack Levitt (170) and Liam Watson (182).

In MIHS’s 48-21 triumph over Bellevue, Garry (106), Benitez (113), Gibson (120), Woods (126), Finifrock (132), Maxwell Martin (138), Warnick (145) and Bahner (160) were victors.
