The undefeated Islander volleyball team has had just one problem this season, the third game. Time after time Mercer Island takes a 2-0 lead only to let up and lose the third game. They always win the fourth game but that third one has become superstitious for the team.
The Islanders broke that dubious run Saturday evening as they crushed Eastside Catholic 3-0 to win the district title at West Seattle High School.

Little Dribblers, a basketball camp for kids in grades 3-9, will start on Saturday, Dec. 6. The program is all about having fun learning the fundamentals, playing games and getting to know the Islander players who will be coaching. For the first time since 2001, both the boys and girls cross country teams will compete at the state meet thanks to strong finishes at districts on Thursday at Lower Woodland Park. The girls team finished second to Seattle Prep (34) with a team score of 69 placing-points, while the boys placed third behind the Prep Panthers (43) and Bellevue (66) with 84 placing-points.
The Mercer Island girls soccer team finally stopped its long five game winless streak and fall from the top of the 3A KingCo league with a 2-0 victory against Interlake Tuesday. The win clinches a playoff spot for the team, which went without a win since September 23.

The Mercer Island boys water polo team continued its dominance of in-state teams on Friday at Edgebrook Country Club, defeating Castaway Polo 16-7. Despite the final score, the game was not all Mercer Island, as CPA outscored the Islanders during the second quarter and played tough during the second half.
