The Mercer Island girls soccer team finally stopped its long five game winless streak and fall from the top of the 3A KingCo league with a 2-0 victory against Interlake Tuesday. The win clinches a playoff spot for the team, which went without a win since September 23.

The Mercer Island boys water polo team continued its dominance of in-state teams on Friday at Edgebrook Country Club, defeating Castaway Polo 16-7. Despite the final score, the game was not all Mercer Island, as CPA outscored the Islanders during the second quarter and played tough during the second half.

The success of the Mercer Island volleyball team has been a surprise to some. Its undefeated record in eight matches, including a 3-0 win against Sammamish on Wednesday, was not necessarily expected after losing four key starters from the 2007 roster. One of those players who moved on was the team’s starting setter for three seasons. This year, sophomore Ariel Dewey has stepped into the position and the team has not lost a step.
