White called up to Mariners

Mercer Island High School graduate Sean White was recalled from the Tacoma Rainiers to play for the Seattle Mariners on Friday. White replaced third baseman Matt Tuiasosopo on the big league roster. White pitched Saturday night against the Detroit Tigers and threw a scoreless ninth inning.

Mercer Island sailing team

Mercer Island High School now has a sailing team. The sailing program is open to any student with interest, no experience necessary.

The team races at scenic harbors in Puget Sound and the San Juans, and trains with the University of Washington sailing team at Sail Sand Point.

A powerhouse pursuit of wind energy comes from teammates Michael Rudocus, Eric Johnson, Bridget Eames and the three Niemesto brothers, Matti, Thomas and Antti.

Mercer Island placed second in JV Double-Handed Districts at Orcas Island this past weekend and plans to compete in the Varsity Team Race Districts at Sail Sand Point, the first weekend of May.
