U12 soccer team takes Classic

The Eastside Football Club Boys U12 Red soccer team took home the championship trophy from the Greater Renton Football Club Winter Classic Tournament, Jan. 17-19, at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila. The boys defeated Greater Renton FC 96 Blue 6-0 in their opening match; tied Washington Premiere FC 96 White 0-0 in the second round; and defeated Northwest Nationals B96 Red 4-0 in round three to advance to the semi-finals. They notched a 5-1 semi-final victory over Crossfire Premiere B97A, then captured the championship by scoring two second-half goals off corner kicks to earn an exciting 2-0 win over Eastside United FC Barcelona of Oregon. Mercer Island residents on the team are Alex Chung, Cody Gibson, Ryan Hill and Gideon Tamir. The team is coached by Tom Bialek.

ITT tryouts by invitation

The Island Travel Team Baseball Tryouts will be taking place on Feb. 7 and 8. Specific field information will be given upon invites. These tryouts will be by invitation only. Invites were notified by Feb. 2.
