Mercer Island High School’s volleyball squad qualified for the 3A state tournament with a fifth-place finish at the 3A District 2 tournament from Nov. 9-11 at Lake Washington High School and Lakeside School in Seattle. State will occur from Nov. 17-18 at the Yakima Valley SunDome. The locals will battle Central Kitsap at 8 a.m. on Nov. 17 in a loser-out contest. At districts, the Islanders went 3-1 with 3-0 victories over Garfield, Bishop Blanchet and Bellevue. The Blanchet victory was winner to state and the Bellevue triumph was for fifth place. Postseason stat leaders, including 3A KingCo and district tournaments, are: In kills, Mia Vorkoper has 49 and Logan Remington has 47; in digs, Aditi Mannby has 91; in assists, Melena Wong has 169; in blocks, June Zalewska has 16 and Addison MacKay has 10; in serve receive rating, Vorkoper has 1.87 and Emily Hsu has 1.67.
