State hoops success

Mercer Island’s sixth-grade boys basketball squad won the gold division state championship at the Washington State Middle School Championships from March 15-17 in Spokane. The locals defeated Lake Washington, 39-34, in the final game. The boys also won the Eastside Travel League regular season and gold tournament championship. This is the second state title for this group, which also won in 2022 as fourth-graders. The Tony Locascio-coached team is: Cash Coochise, Paxton Conklin, Colton Gribble, Drew Munson, Will Russell, Cal Robinson, Blake Schwabe, Franco Giler, Jacob Sharpe, Luke Thomas, Luke Wilbur and Vidhun Srivathsan.
